Confused Americans for Truth - Something Smells Funny

by Ferdinand T Cat

Bruce and I were watching TV from yesterday evening and we were treated to a commercial for a strange new product-- Scentstories. The basic idea of the product is simple. The sense that evokes memory most strongly is the sense of smell. It therefore follows that a device which produces varied scents in sequence will use a person's own memories to tell a story. The current scent albums produced by the manufacturer include Exploring a Mountain Trail and wandering barefoot in the snow. Personally, I can't see consumers lining up in droves for a chance at experiencing memories of oxygen deprivation and frostbite, but maybe that's just me.

The weird thing is what we found when we did a search on the topic. Apparently, the marketing of a new scent product is a religious event. Here are some of the stories we found.

I'm not a theologian, so I can't really make an educated guess one way or another on the apocalypse, but I am worried that Febreze will not survive this onslaught of righteous wrath. So here's my proposal for putting Febreze back on the side of the angels: give up on the whole barefoot snow and mountain stuff. For the next set of discs, try a war protestor burning U.S. flag or a dope deal turning into a shootout. Then it will be a free-speech issue. In fact, they don't even need to make the discs! Just have somebody write a memo about it and fax Dan Rather.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
