Notes from Ferdy - Euthanasia and Taxes
Wizbang just posted another story about Dutch euthanasia (the first story is here).
What frightens people about this is the fact that some children are being killed without prior parental consent and that this process is spreading to other European countries. Right Pundit links the whole culture of involuntary euthanasia to the liberal tendency toward arrogance. I disagree: cats are arrogant, but we don't practice euthanasia. There's more involved here.
I have stated before that Capitalism is a law of nature. One of the corollaries of this law is that when people gain financially, they are more tempted to do something. For example, it has long been known that the illegitimate birth rate is linked to welfare programs, particularly those that provide payment to unwed mothers.
So what does that have to do with euthanasia? Two words: socialized medicine. Socialized medicine always creates a gap between the supply of medical care and the demand. Killing people is a great way to close that gap, especially if the person is going to require lifetime care.
A law of nature cannot be denied. If you create a demand for euthanasia, doctors are going to supply it and ethics be damned.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat
