Confused Americans for Truth - How to Spot Media Bias

by Ferdinand T Cat

Harvey of the Alliance of Free Blogs asks the question If Memogate doesn't indicate media bias, what would?

I think this is a good question, and I feel uniquely qualified to answer it.

The reason is, of course, that I believe I'm a superior life form, just like journalists, so I understand how they think. So, I have to ask myself: under what conditions would I consider myself capable of allowing my prejudices to bias me one way or another in the pursuit of a story. The answer is simple:

When hell freezes over.

Respectfully submitted,

Lessee....an uproar in the media over a forged document on a newshow alongside virtual silence over the disclosure of a president that used forged documents to initiate a war. hmmmm. One, though forged, did not invalidate the reality of what it attempted to prove. The other, though parroted as truth by every rightwinger for the past couple of years has now officially been declared a complete load of bull from the get-go.

Yep. Sure does look like bias to me.

The "uproar" and "virtual silence" you describe happened in the right-wing blogosphere, which has never claimed to be unbiased. If you had read the source material, you would have known I was referring to the so-called mainstream press.

The escapade about the WMDs was unfortunate, but it was the only way to get the Democrats to back the war. To conservatives, people are people, and the idea of establishing an Arab democracy to take the pressure off Israel makes perfect sense. Liberals, however, think Arabs are too stupid to rule themselves, so we had to come up with another reason. I always thought that Clinton made up the whole Iraq/WMD thing to draw attention away from his impeachment, but apparently the Bushies thought he was sincere. Next time maybe they'll listen to me and avoid all these problems.
