Undo the Damage! - What Went Wrong

by Tallulah Interloper

I'm sure all of you are sick of hearing about the Iraqi election. I've been sitting here trying to figure out what went wrong. Right up to the day before voting started, it looked to me like there was no way the Iraqis would be able to risk going to the polls. The insurgent attacks were simply too numerous and too deadly.

I think the problem is that the news we're getting from the American press is too heavily focused on the negative. Even though it appears to us that Iraq is a sea of mortar attacks and suicide bombers, it's possible that these are isolated incidents that the average Iraqi citizen isn't seeing.

What can we do to Undo the Damage? It's simple. Find the name and address of an Iraqi citizen and give them a free gift subscription to the New York Times!. A few weeks of that and they'll be afraid to walk out the door to even if it's only to buy a carton of milk. When it's time to ratify the new constitution, nobody's going to want to participate at all!

Remember: it's too late to prevent the war, but it's never too late to UNDO THE DAMAGE!

Living with a liberal cat...poor Ferdy!

Really. When The Interloper first came to live here, she directed all her ire at The Other Cat and pretty much left me alone. Now I've become the primary and consistent object of her extremely loud wrath. The thing is, she absolutely loves Peg-Eye Nate, who even more of a reactionary than I am. Maybe it's a feminist thing and she's threatened by my powerful masculinity.
