Blogging for Condi - Into the First World Tour
The top story on the Drudge Report right now is an AP article about Condoleezza Rice's first overseas trip as Secretary of State. Speaking together with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, she called for Europeans to support the Iraqi people. Schroeder talked about Iran, stating that he and Rice were in agreement that Iran "must not have the potential of a nuclear weapon whatsoever". Rice continues to hold her position that there are no plans to invade Iran any time soon. It will be interesting to see if Europe will consider a military option should push come to shove in Iran. Nonetheless, Iran must be feeling a certain amount of pressure from the fact that its western border is Iraq and its eastern border is Afghanistan.
On Tuesday Secretary Rice will visit Israel for talks with both Israeli Prime Minister Sharon and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. One of the topics of discussion will be Abbas's proposed trip to Iran. Up to this point, Iran has supported Palestinian terrorist groups like Hamas, but has refused any overt support for the Palestinian Authority itself.
Respectfully submitted,
