Blogging for Condi - Playing Egypt
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has postponed a planned trip to Egypt and will be confining her next trip abroad to London. But that's not all. Doctor Rice has been spotted wearing high-heeled boots and a long black coat.
Oddly enough, both events are connected.
Say what you will about the venture in Iraq, the Bush Administration believes that it is a success, and it is using that success to flex America's muscles on the world stage. Doctor Rice is not wearing a dull old business suit, and Egypt has been served notice that we don't like them jailing political prisoners.
There is reason to believe that the world is willing to listen. Whether or not he is sincere, Walid Jumblatt is turning against his Syrian masters, and the Lebanese people themselves have started to make themselves heard.
I'm sure this scares the daylights out of some people, but to this lifelong hunter and observer of the passing scene, it's nice to see some muscles flexed in the cause of democracy for a change.

We'll see how things turn out, but I am rather optimistic. The key for the moment is Lebanon. If the Lebanese fail, the setback will be temporary, but if they succeed, the democratic forces in the Middle East will have incredible momentum.

Secretary of State Rice looks great! Confident in herself, confident of her message, confident of her role, proud of her country & her president! I am proud to have her represent the United States!!
