Catblogging - The Amazing, Stupendous Carnival of the Cats, Volume 47
Yes, it's here! The 47th Carnival of the Cats, hosted by yours truly, Ferdinand the Conservative Cat. (Note the spiffy picture of myself to the immediate left. It's the only time you'll ever see me on the left of anything.)
We have thirty-three submissions this week. The first one was from Laurence of This Blog is Full of Crap. Laurence is the organizer of the Carnival, and submitted a post about keeping your computer screen clean. Tragically, the link specified in the post is broken, but Bruce found the animation's permanent home, so you won't miss anything.
Important: Next week's carnival will be at Flying Space Monkey. You can submit your entry using our handy-dandy Carnival Submission Page. If you're a dog person rather than a cat person, consider submitting to the Carnival of the Dogs. I'm not saying this because I'm collecting a list of dog owners as part of my plot to take over the world: it's pure altruism. Trust me.
Our second entry is from Lynn of Your Moosey Fate. Lynn shows us an unusal sight: two cats practicing peaceful coexistence. The secret is that one of them is playing dead.
Fellow feline Aunt Holly offers tips on keyboard etiquette, including very important information about the use of the human term "mouse" to describe a lump of reeoooowww.
Barry Campbell of Enrevanche tells us about his favorite chair. Apparently, Mr. Campbell forgot that the most comfortable chair in the house belongs to his rightful owner, Mr. Gato.
From The People's Republic of Seabrook, comes a plea for help with their cat Einar. Apparently, Einar is still spraying to attract females even though he's no longer equipped to mate with them. I suspect Einar is trying to find a mate for his human pet and got confused.
Jazz Shaw of Running Scared shows us an example of kitty bliss. We should all be so lucky.
From the Murphies Family we get a welcome for Panda the cat. I've seen The Interloper do this same pose, and it's important that a local human gives her a tummy rub immediately or you're in for severe crankiness.
Speaking of The Interloper, here's a picture of her communing with Conservative Cat's Official New Media Critic Peg-Eye Nate. Theirs is an unlikely friendship, because the Interloper is liberal and Nate is so conservative he makes me look like a moderate. By the way, it may look like Nate's sleeping, but actually he's working on a term paper. Nate is the only human I've ever met who does term papers while snoring with his eyes closed.
Next up, Lab Kat shows how you can have a cease fire in a multi-cat household as provided you put out enough tuna.
From DED Space, we have a photo of Velma taking her ease, and, in my never-to-be-humble opinion, looking mighty fine in a new necklace.
MJ Cat of NYC Babylon provides us with some advice for the single cat on Valentine's Day. My only amendment to the list is to proceed with caution while in the closets. On more than one occassion I've accidentally disturbed a snarling lump of orange fur full of sharp bits.
Fred Vincy of Stone Court presents a photo of my rival from across the aisle, the Demo-Cat, looking exceptionally scary.
Michael of Curiouser and Curiouser has a nice head and shoulder shot of his owner, Tinker. Timker appears to be practicing the wistful look used for training a pet human to function as a cat bed. Using a pet human for a cat bed is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, the pet human is warmer than a plain old pillow. On the other hand, the human needs to work so he can continue to buy mozzarella cheese and other important cat foods. Hopefully, Tinker will be able to strike the appropriate balance.
Ady of Ripe Bananas has a picture of Omni keeping watch. To a human, I'm sure it looks like Omni is looking out the window. In fact, Omni is protecting the house from South American carpenter ants. No cat person north of the Mexican border has ever been attacked by South American carpenter ants, and it's because of cats like Omni.
Barb of Annoying Little Twerp has two offerings: Shady Cat with matching carpet and Sasha Kitty. I don't know what Sasha Kitty is looking at, but based on the dialtion of the pupils and position of the whiskers it's probably something Sasha wants to eat. Here's hoping it's not Barb's fingers.
El Capitan of Baboon Pirates also has two offerings, but sadly they aren't cats, just cat tales. First (keeping with the tale theme), he explains a new invention-- tail collars. Plus, he has an anecdote about germs. Ick.
Next, from the folks at bloggg we have Feak in the Window. Of course, you and I know that Feak is taking his turn on the watch for South American carpenter ants.
Cassie of Scribblings has a whole bunch of pictures featuring her cat Amber at play. She also has more recent pictures of Mouse playing with the camera. Apparently, Cassie's camera doesn't explode in a bright flash of light the way Bruce's camera does. You won't catch ME getting that close to a camera.
SB of Watermark describes two surprise packages, one of which has something cat-related. I don't understand the whole thing about tangerine-flavored lip balm, though: tuna-flavored would make more sense.
Diane of Lisaviolet's Cat House has a story about rain. (Rain is not, in this case, the name of a cat. It's that awful wet stuff that falls from the sky when it's cloudy.)
Tom of Aptenobytes has a sequence of pictures featuring his cat Lola. Lola is pure black, and looks like one of those cats you don't want to mess with after dark.
Kathryn of Cathouse Chat shows how a homework assignment can be improved in appearance with your cat's help.
Brendan of The Irish Trojan's Blog has a diverse collection of pictures, ranging from a possible spy to something that is not quite beer.
The world-famous Ogre of Ogre's Politics and Views shows how his cat Rusty can find space where ordinary mortals see none. This is just another reason why owning a cat gives you an important advantage.
The Songstress at News from the Great Beyond presents Intruder!!! , a story of fear, home invasion, and feline security systems.
The Mind of Mog has a photo that shows the proper way to perform toe-sucking. As a bonus, Mog also has a picture of three cats distributed across a sofa for easy petting.
Elisson of Blog D'Elisson presents Catblogging on Sunday, the Riddle of the Sphinx, and A Study in Beige and Chocolate.
Sissy Willis of SISU has The paws that refresh, featuring the magic of a cross-country ski trip brought to you by the digital revolution, plus You Make Me Smile, a bit of a feline Valentine. As for Bebe back home, she's outta here.
BJ of Quite Early One Morning (which is the end of the day for a cat), tells the tragically short story of Sam the Siamese.
Kimberly at Music and Cats asks How Many Cats? The answer is three, but it looks more like six if you ask me.
Jay Tea of the venerable Wizbang! has a story in which a cat helps to bring him back from an alternate reality. Cats are actually quite adept at navigating alternate realities. This is why so many of Bruce's close friends have been cats.
UPDATED: Mira of The Oubliette has three entries that somehow slipped through the cracks Sunday night. (This is not too surprising. Extracting the genuine submissions from all the messages about Crystal the Japanese Webcam Girl is a tricky process.) First, Rex Noah and McCullogh display their Mardi Gras attire. There's also some information about a very dangerous drink called catnip tea. Next, Mira shows us Leaper playing with a hammock. I've done some hammock playing myself. It is very important to step off in the correct manner. As much as I enjoy leaping through the air, I prefer that it be in a direction I want to go. Finally, for you culture lovers, a poem by a human pet about his owner. I'm not a big poetry fan myself, but in this case I'll make an exception.
Finally, I offer you a picture of someone very special in my life-- the girl who feeds me. Here you see her with the notorious Other Cat, who is obviously sucking up in a transparent bid to get extra feedings.
Special thanks to Laurence of This Blog is Full of Crap for letting me host the Carnival. I had a great time. I know it looks like a lot of work, but I feel very strongly about the importance of the Carnival, and if I have to work Bruce into a coma, I'm willing to pay that price! And special thanks to those of you who used the Carnival Submission Form, which formats your information automatically so it's less work to include in the Carnival. Thanks to you, Bruce will have enough strength to go to work tomorrow.
Next week, catch the Carnival at Flying Space Monkey. The Cat's Meow and Funny Stuff will be back tomorrow night, plus some Blogging for Doctor Rice. Don't miss it!
Respectfully submitted
Ferdinand T. Cat
