The Cat's Meow - 04/12/05: Motives
Almost all modern political analysis is wrong-headed. If someone can't understand your beliefs, it stands to reason they are not qualified to speak about your motives.
This is something that has been percolating in my mind for quite some time, ever since I read the following comment on Crystal Clear:
If the christian right had won, you can bet they would had been in every court in this nation seeking to void each and every Living Will and last testament of us all just so they could take guardianship of the brain dead people and drain their bank accounts because their stupid conservative messages in their churches are driving their members away so they are losing money.
Granted, this is an extreme rant, but look at any analysis of the whole Schiavo affair and you'll see at least one comment about the Republicans "miscalculating" the political fallout, as if it's all that's at stake here.
The hidden trap inside this technique of exploring motivation is that it takes the discussion of the actual issues completely off the table. We're hearing a lot about Tom DeLay and very little about euthanasia. So here's my proposal: I'll stipulate that this has been a huge defeat for the Republican party and the pro-life movement.
Now that that's out of the way, here's a completely unrelated question: if it were you on the feeding tube, would you want to be starved to death on the basis of hearsay evidence by an adulterous spouse?
Me neither.
Maybe Congress ought to do something about that.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

Ferdy...What do you think about this?

The guy who wrote that sounds brain dead. I think we should take guardianship and drain his bank account.

(I should point out that Jenny is talking about the rant quoted in my article, and not Kilo's recipe for a cake that looks like cat litter.)

Ferdy, have you heard the terrible, evil, vile, anti-Feline song, "Kill a kitten"?

No I haven't, actually. However, this may be due to my well-publicized opinion on pounce-style hunting and its application to human testicles.
