The Cat's Meow - 04/19/05: Campaign Finance Reform

by Ferdinand T Cat
At some point, we're going to have to face the fact that it's no longer possible to buy an election.

There is absolutely no evidence that the DNC's Fortunate Son ad campaign was coordinated with CBS's infamous 60 Minutes segment on Bush's Air National Guard service.

However, it doesn't matter. The truth is, that what would have been the equivalent of a multi-million-dollar attack on the President was nullified in a matter of hours by a few guys writing for free in their spare time.

In other words, a campaign finance reform initiative that targets multi-million-dollar ad campaigns is irrelevant. In the new reality of the information age, you can spread your message faster by taking Glenn Reynolds to lunch.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

Yeah, 130,000 site visits a day will do something for spreading your message. My 200 hits a day (mostly people who aren't coming to read my thoughts) don't compare.

Obviously none of us have as large of an audience as Reynolds, but the beauty of the blogosphere is that you can hook up with like-minded people via links, trackbacks etc... and essentially get your thoughts out, albeit to a lesser degree.
