Catblogging - Emergency Catblogging

by Bruce the Human Pet

Hi. My name is Bruce Parrello and I'm Ferdy's assistant on the blog. I'm currently working on porting a gene database from Unix to Windows. Part of this involves transferring 50 gigabytes of data from a Macintosh server to my laptop. I've been at the computer lab nursemaiding the data transfer since late last night and haven't been able to talk to Ferdy since we posted the Arianna Huffington thing. My daughter Tory (who is in charge of feeding and grooming all three of our cats) called from home and says that Ferdy is very upset about something. I think it's because we haven't had a chance to do the Friday cat blog.

So here's today's picture of Ferdy. I believe this is a picture of him immediately after he's come down from one of his 3-foot-high jumps. Ever since Tallulah the Interloper moved in, Ferdy has been very high strung and he jumps at the slightest noise.

It's really amazing to watch the two of them interact. Ferdy doesn't growl or hiss. He just walks into the room in a very tentative way, stopping after each step and looking at her. At some point, he crosses an invisible barrier and she goes nuts. Hours later I'll find him hiding in a box somewhere with his tail inflated to three times its normal size. He can take down a full-grown rabbit in a matter of seconds, but against a female member of his own species he's completely helpless.

This probably demonstrates an important philosophical principle, but unfortunately Ferdy is not here to tell me what it is.

Ferdy has never shown any interest in candy, though he likes the taste of candy wrappers, which is a problem.

His favorite food is mozzarella cheese. Feed him some Sargento's part skim and he'll be your friend for life.

Also, I'm not sure I could actually call him "my" cat...
