Eternal Questions - 06/23/05: Sci-Fi

by Ferdinand T Cat
Why don't the people in monster movies carry more flame-throwers?

Bruce is a science fiction fan and a movie buff, so watching stuff like Starship Troopers and Alien vs. Predator is a major mental health hazard of living with him. Every time I see one of these flicks, I find myself wondering why the heck people insist on using pistols and machine guns. The hapless protagonists stand there firing round after round while the picture's icky monster thing shrugs them off like drops of rain.

People, when you are facing the unstoppable hordes of hell, the only sane strategy is overwhelming force. If today is the day that everybody's caught the zombie virus, throwing rocks is not the answer. The answer is fragmentation grenades. Maybe it doesn't seem fair, but there is a time for playing by the rules and a time for drawing a line in extraterrestrial swamp muck.

Maybe the movies would be shorter, but they would be a heck of a lot more interesting.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

Definitely going to have go agree with you on this one, though my gripe is that flamethrowers are not in more computer games... Such a wonderful tool, and it would be such a beautiful addition to single-player versions of most games. Especially Halo and that damned Library level...
