Confused Americans for Truth - Enough is Enough!
Here's what Karl Rove said (taken from this online New York Times article).
Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.
Democrats are, of course, outraged, but conspicuously missing from the reaction is any indication of what Democrats would actually do to fight the War on Terror, and this, folks, is exactly the problem.
For example, there's this article in the Progressive Blog Alliance, in which the author accuses Rove of trying to draw attention away from the Downing Street Memos. Over on the Huffington Post, Bill Diamond pens a sarcastic Mea Culpa and Adrianna herself reports a phony apology.
And right there you have the difference between the Karl Rove thing and the Dick Durbin thing. The outrage against Durbin has concentrated around the belief that the Nazis were much worse than the Guantanamo guards and the fact that the majority of the prisoners at Guantanamo are treated extremely well. It's a controversy of fact and scale.
The outrage against Rove is pure How-Dare-You-itis. Rather than an effective plan for disproving Rove's statements, the left has chosen to accuse him of needing therapy. Funny how that works out.
If the liberals had a plan for prosecuting the War on Terror, then they could perhaps make a cogent argument that Rove is wrong. But not only do they not have a plan, Huffington Post writer Tom Hayden is castigating Al Franken and Joe Biden for coming up with one!
I think therapy may be a good idea here, but it's not the terrorists who need it.
Respectfully submitted,
