Confused Americans for Truth - Saddam Hussein: Not as Human as You Think
There has been a lot of talk lately about the portrait of Saddam Hussein painted in a recent GQ magazine article. You can find CNN's take on it here.
It's very easy to be misled by stories like this. A guy who is friendly with his guards, hands out advice about women, and hates Froot Loops hardly seems to fit the profile of a mass-murdering psychopath.
What's missing from this picture is a vital piece of knowledge about insane people: they know how to act normal. Being crazy isn't the same as being stupid, and the successful lunatics learn fairly early on when to hold back and when to cut loose. For example, until very recently most people thought Tom Cruise was sane.
So remember: it may be the case that Saddam is not currently killing people, looting his country, or raping women, but that doesn't mean he won't be getting back into his old habits at the first available opportunity.
