The Human Element - A New Approach to Terror

by Bruce the Human Pet

New York Senator Chuck Schumer is proposing the use of explosive detection devices to increase security at shopping malls and train stations.

The problem with such devices is that they do not work well in open air situations. In order to detect complex chemical combinations, you either need to have a dog, or to feed people through a narrow area.

I believe, however, that there is an alternative approach. All explosive materials in use today rely on nitrates for the chemical reaction. To insure absolute safety, all we need is a detector that will sound an alarm whenever it senses nitrogen gas. I ran this idea by Ferdy, and he says he can't imagine a terrorist getting past such a device.

I'll be talking to my superiors at the research lab about applying for a grant. Even though I'm a Republican and Sen. Schumer is a Democrat, I think we can still work together for the common good.
