Laura Ingraham - The Head Shave

by Ferdinand T Cat

Hair loss is a common side effect of chemotherapy, especially when Adriamycin is used. Adriamycin targets fast-growing cells, and the fastest-growing cells in your body are the hair bulb cells that attach your hair to the lower layers of your skin.

If you intend to use a wig to cover the hair loss, the recommended procedure is to shave the hair close to the scalp and get the wig fitted before the hair starts to fall out. This also diminishes the psychological horror of clumps of hair coming loose when you brush.

Yesterday, Laura had her head shaved and a wig fitted at Amy of Denmark, which is recommended by the Washington DC Chapter of Y-Me, a Breast Cancer support group.

The hair on a human's head is very important to his or her self-esteem. I'm not sure why this is, but I suspect it's because you envy cats, and a human's head hair is the closest thing you have to the luxurious, beautiful fur coat of a feline. Laura admitted that the emotional shock hit her hard, but I am happy to report that on today's show she seemed her usual chipper, confident self.

As always, remember Laura Ingraham in your prayers. Despite the incredible progress we've made in the fight against cancer, it's still an iffy thing.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

I've been deliberately shaving my head for a couple of years now, ferdy. It grows out just fine if I let it, but some of us look kinda cool, in a Yul Brynner sort of way.

My prayers are with her. I have pledged to shave my head in sympathy, but that's an easy vow for a bald guy.
