Web Site News - I Can See the Light at the End of the Tunnel
WE'RE BACK!
|
We have some tweaking to do, but it appears we are mostly back in business with no loss of data.
What happened is that the trackback spammers figured out how to get around our anti-spam software and flooded the server with pings. Our Web Presence Provider (Lunarpages), does not want their customers using Movable Type, so they disabled the entire blog subdirectory of Conservative Cat. Now, Movable Type does provide a useful export function to help you move your blog data from one server to another, but this capability is useless if you can't execute any scripts. Fortunately, all of the blog data is kept in a database, and if you can move the database, a simple rebuild will bring your site back from the dead.
I appreciate all the support we got via EMAIL while we were down. Rest assured that this blog is very important to me, and if I have to work Bruce 24 hours a day for a week to keep it running, I'm willing to pay that price.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

That's precisely the reason I dumped Movable Type. . . that and my complete inability to build a working template, import posts, or set it up so people could leave comments. I don't so much blame MT as I do my lack of ability. Well, I blame MT a little.

Did you switch to another provider or did you stay with Lunarpages?

| HTML is not allowed in comments; however, if you put in a raw URL (http://www.somewhere.com/page.html) it will automatically be converted to a link.. Also, it is likely your comment will not appear unless you refresh the page manually after posting it. |
