Web Site News - A Turning Point in Human History

by Ferdinand T Cat

Bruce is going to attempt to upgrade to Movable Type 3.2.

This will either lead to improved performance and usability for the Conservative Cat blog empire, or it will send the Earth hurtling out of orbit and crash it into the sun.

At least, this is how Bruce has explained the risks to me, and I have to believe him, because he's my technical guy. Bruce has over 300 years of experience in computer programming (measured in cat years), and when he was very young there was some sort of horrifying trauma involving a thing he calls "the beta test version of OS/MVS". This apparently still taints his view of software upgrades.

Anyway, wish us luck.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

Maxed Out

But what if we wake up and WE'RE ALL FREEZING COLD?!

(Obscure Twilight Zone reference)

OS/MVS -- that would be 300 years of experience in regular years.... Does he still have a copy of Principles of Ops?

I recently donated a slide-rule, some punched cards (that were indeed punched) and an 8.5 inch floppy disk to a small "history of tech" display.

God I'm old....

In high school, I worked in OS/360 Assembler, and I actually color-coded the punch cards: white for code statements, pink for comments, green for data definitions, and so forth. On the larger programs, it made it a lot easier to find a particular card. It is for sure a different world now.
