Windows Hell - New MSN Messenger Virus, Trojan.Aimsend Flares Up Again

by Ferdinand T Cat

For some time now, hackers have been using instant messaging tools to spread viruses. Symantec Anti-Virus reports that a new MSN Messenger virus was discovered today, W32.Kelvir.II. This virus pops up a message similar to the following along with a link.

loool sure fat ppl is the best target for jokes hehe

Clicking on the link downloads the virus. If you haven't updated your virus definitions today, do so immediately!

In addition, Peg-Eye Nate reports that the Trojan.Aimsend threat has broken out among AIM users at the University of Illinois. Aimsend also spreads itself via a link in an instant messaging conversation window. The links point to URLs in the domains funny.afz.biz, tubarec.com/data/, or www.djbookings.net. Be on the lookout for these links if you use AIM and have a friend in college. Aimsend was discovered in June, so if you've kept your anti-virus software up-to-date you should be safe.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

A perfect example of why I have disabled Messenger from my computer.

I have managed to live without IM so far. Hope to make it a lifelong practice.

I never use it myself; however, Bruce has three teenage daughters and only one phone line. MSN Messenger enables his wife to contact him if (for example) the house were on fire and The Girl Who Feeds Me won't get off the phone.
