Laura Ingraham - Bill Bennett in the Hot Seat
I haven't said much about the Bill Bennett controversy, because talk radio coverage of the topic was pretty much wall-to-wall on Friday, to the point that Bruce and I were pretty sick of hearing about it.
Mr. Bennett was talking to the caller about arguing a pro-life or pro-abortion position based on the side effects of abortion, and came up with this:
I don't think it is either because, first of all, I think there's just too much that you don't know. But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do. But your crime rate would go down.
It was a dumb thing for Bennett to say, but the man is a human being, not a cat. One of the things Bruce does when he edits a post is parse each sentence to see if it can be taken the wrong way, and he still screws up every now and then. A talk radio host doesn't have the time for that sort of self-censorship.
Kudos to Laura Ingraham for keeping mum on a subject that was being done to death. This is why I love her so much.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

He is an idiot for saying that. Be careful with words.
