Web Site News - Blogiversary 1

Conservative Cat is one year old. Although the blog and domain had been around for a while, I didn't start posting in earnest until October 18.

It's customary on this kind of occasion to reflect on the changes wrought by the previous year; however, I'm a cat. Cats suffer from a severe shortage of birthdays, so having two birthdays a year is important. It's especially true in my case, since I was found in a cardboard box and my actual date of birth is unknown. So instead of talking about the blog I'll talk about myself. It's my favorite subject anyway.

  • In the past year, I've discovered a reliable technique for cadging extra cheese snacks out of Bruce while he's cooking. Obviously, women who claim that men can't be properly trained are doing something wrong.
  • Never, ever, EVER offend a female cat.
  • It still bothers me that after the detailed instructions I keep leaving in various places around the web, none of the political candidates have attempted to bribe me in exchange for favorable coverage. I offer a unique service here: how many other journalists are willing to take food stamps?
  • Last December the Interloper came to live with us. Somehow, Bruce's wife became convinced the Interloper needed protection from me, so now the Interloper is permanently locked in the master bedroom. This is the equivalent of building the Berlin Wall so that West Berliners wouldn't try to escape to the communist paradise in the east. I still have nightmares about that evil hell-beast.
  • The advantage of being a conservative blogger is that you become friends with so many nice people. The disadvantage is that you can't get this picture out of your head. The people who sell Movable Type make you read this long disclaimer about copyrights and liabilities and piracy and stuff, but it says nothing about Harvard geeks in blue bunny suits.
  • Because of the Other Cat's allergies, I had to spend this summer indoors for the first time. I miss killing rabbits, but I have to say it's nice to be finally rid of the stupid fleas. Tragically, the principle is not generally applicable: Bruce spent a month as a vegetarian, and it didn't even make a dent in the trackback spam.
