Notes from Ferdy - Camp Katrina Wants to Change Hurricane Naming System

by Ferdinand T Cat

The guys at Camp Katrina have come up with a new idea: instead of giving hurricanes human names, we should give them Star Wars names. Here is the post describing the concept. The list begins like this:

  • Anakin
  • Boba Fett
  • Cody
  • Death Star

The Katrina boys do a good job of justifying each of the names, though quite frankly if you want to invoke terror with a Star Wars theme, every hurricane would have to be named Jar-Jar Binks.

Look for hurricane naming systems to be an out-of-control blog meme sometime in the very near future.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

A should be for Andersen, as in Andersen Cooper.

Name them all after idiot reporters who run around in 100MPH winds.

I was listening to Spike O'Dell last week, and someone on his show suggested that the National Weather Service should sell naming rights to hurricanes. Boggles the mind, no? But, if we can "own" and "name" stars through the International Star Registry, why not sell naming rights to hurricanes (as long as all funds raised from same go to disaster relief)?

The problem is, we have enough trouble with on-the-scene reporters talking about Hurricane Katrina or whatever. I shudder to think of the stampede of elaborately-coiffed journalists all trying to be the first one to say "This morning, Haliburton destroyed half of Mississippi and did over $30 billion of damage to New Orleans."
