Illini Carnival - Carnival of the Vicious, Invading Paleface Bastards
I have been thinking for a while of starting a carnival of my own, and I've noticed that there is no carnival that highlights the state of Illinois. Illinois is special for many reasons: we elected Dick Durbin to the Senate, our biggest city is considered the role model for successful corruption, and the state's name is considered offensive under the rules of the NCAA. Therefore, I have decided to start a weekly carnival devoted to Illinois bloggers or blog posts about Illinois-related issues.
This is not just another transparent attempt by me to increase my visibility. It's entirely out of the goodness of my heart. My hope is it will help to build a sense of community among Illinois bloggers. For the first few weeks I'll be pulling articles from known Illinois blogs, but eventually I hope people will get in the habit of submitting stuff via the Carnival Submit Form.
The fun begins below the fold.
Rick Moran of Right Wing Nut House discusses the aftermath of the Pakistani earthquake, its resemblance to Katrina, and how both relate to a turning point in Chicago History in Unnatural Perceptions of Natural Disasters.
Bruno Behrend of Extreme Wisdom writes Dear River Forest Residents - VOTE NO on Home Rule!, in which he warns the people of River Forest about home rule powers, which give qualifying municipalities in Illinois all sorts of new ways to tax the citizens.
Rich Miller of Capitol Fax discusses Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's new health insurance plan AllKids. I'm afraid it reminds me rather uncomfortably of this plan by one John F. Kerry. Meanwhile, Renew Illinois notes that the initial study for the AllKids plan has been awarded to an out-of-state firm under a no-bid contract.
Mark of Liberty Just in Case has a highly under-reported story about a certain famous Illinois political activist: Jesse Jackson to Stand Trial.
Bill Baar of Bill Baar's West Side notes the relevance to our modern political struggle of Orwell's Cruel Pacifist.
Aaron of Free Will takes a swipe at Fortune Magazine's defense of the Kelo vs. New London decision.
Illini Girl gives us a survey of what she's watching on TV this fall. She is pleasantly surpised by My Name is Earl on NBC but is guarded about the future of The War at Home on FOX.
Lenny of Cross Blogging warns about a threatened legal action against a group opposing the Winthrop Harbor school referendum.
Cao of Cao's Blog has a story about the FEC trying to take down Club for Growth. The basis of the complaint is that Club for Growth ran ads criticizing former Democratic Senator Tom Daschle. The FEC considers this a "test case" for establishing the boundaries of what you are allowed to say in political advertising if you are not an official PAC.
Finally, Eyes on the Ball is singing Porkbusters 2: Piglet's Revenge.
That's all for this week. Remember, if you are an Illinois Blogger or have an article about Illinois that you want to appear in next week's carnival, just go here to submit it.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

I will say the new title isn't too far off of what I typically say when my family and I visit the Wisconsin Dells.

This is a great idea! Now it looks as though I'm going to have to broaden my horizons a little bit and start talking about what's happening in Illinois. Interesting how I'm so disgusted with Illinois politics, corruption and so on, that I tend to dismiss what's happening in my own state for other news on the blog.

Sheesh! My face is red...er, white with embarassment.
BTW...Could you get Bruce to type my real name into the computer? It's "Rick Moran."
I'm afraid I haven't gone by my indian name for many moons.

Great! I was thinking of starting one too. Now I only have to contribute and not do any work! Whoopee!
I was also thinking about starting a Carnival of Texas. However, I only go there to visit about once every 6 months and so I am not really a Texan I just love it down there. So, I am still debating.

Sorry, Rick. Now that you mention it, I remember the whole name-change incident. I've fixed the entry, and will let you know as soon as I figure out a way to blame the lapse entirely on Bruce.
