Illini Carnival - Carnival of the Vicious, Invading Paleface Bastards #3

by Ferdinand T Cat

Bruce still cries when he remembers thisWelcome to the third edition of the Carnival of the Vicious, Invading Paleface Bastards, the only Carnival devoted entirely to Illinois issues and Illinois blogs. There's only one story in the State of Illinois this week: the Chicago White Sox are in the World Series, and Sox fans are coming out of the woodwork. After decades of furtively hiding from the upturned noses of Cubs fans, the South Siders have become respectable again. Best of all, the new, space-age design of U.S. Cellular Field means we don't have to worry about any fans grabbing a foul ball out of an outfielder's glove in the ninth inning.

The fun begins below the fold.

Cao at Cao's Blog submitted the tale of the Ward Churchill Protest at DePaul. Ward Churchill originally gained notoriety for saying that America deserved the 9/11 attack because of our maltreatment of Ward's people-- which in this case turns out to be white people pretending to be Native Americans. Cao's treatment of the protest includes plenty of pictures as well as a reaction from one of the counter-protestors.

RICK MORAN (he capitalized his name to make sure I got it right this time) submitted WHEN GROWN MEN WEEP. For a long time I have suspected that Rick is a genuine White Sox fan (as opposed to a fair-weather fan like Bruce). There is nothing in the post to disabuse me of that notion.

Dave Burge of Iowa Hawk has an article on How to Blog Good. This is the second article in the series, and I dearly hope that the amateur bloggers at The Huffington Post religiously follow Dave's advice.

Cross Blogging'a has an article this week about one more example of the growing phenomenon of Scholastic Christophobia. It's called Jesus Headed to the Supreme Court.

Aaron of Free Will describes conditions in Somalia. There's a lesson here for the Peace Movement about the efficacy of cutting and running.

Jeffrey Trig of Random Acts of Kindness notes that George Ryan Looks More Guilty All the Time. Ryan almost singlehandedly converted Illinois from a red state to a blue one, and this article explains one of the reasons.

Bloggo Chicago gives us a favorable review of the movie Doom. Bruce and Peg-Eye Nate went to see Doom over the weekend, and they seemed to enjoy it, but I still think the time would have been better spent working on my website.

Bruno Behrend of Extreme Wisdom discusses a possible link between Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda. I suspect very few conservatives will be surprised by this revelation, but it's nice to see some solid evidence.

Mark of Liberty Just In Case talks about Waiting for Game One, from the perspective of a lifelong Cubs fan.

Rich Miller of Capitol Fax has a nice rundown on Governor Blagojevich's AllKids plan for insuring Illinois children. The fact that a University of Illinois Professor is having doubts about the plan is an indication AllKids is in real trouble.

Renew Illinois presents the need for a Wal-Mart governor. The Wal-Mart theory is that people should get more value for their money. This would be a radical change from what we have now. We went nearly bankrupt to build better roads and it's STILL a permanent parking lot on the highway junction in Hillside.

Bill Baar of Bill Baar's West Side has an excerpt from a speech by the Iraqi Ambassador to Canada that everybody needs to read. Tell your friends.

In Open Source vs. Individual Rights, Mike the Armchair Analyst gives us a thoughtful analysis of the two types of libertarians, and how their differences represent opposing views of the role of the individual in the creation of technological progress.

Red Chicago tells a story about gas prices that you may not have seen on TV.

Eyes on the Ball is normally devoted to very biting political satire. His latest article, however, is dead serious, and a must-read for anyone thinking about watching HDTV sports events on their home computer.

Orange-Haired Boy went to see the local production of WIcked, and his experience was considerably better than the Eyes on the Ball people had with the ATI HDTV Wonder.

The Hungry Writer wrote It Is Not Sweet, It Is Forgetfulness. Bruce couldn't understand it, but I thought it was fairly deep. Of course, writing poetry that only appeals to superior life forms is a pretty good recipe for being a hungry writer.

i-pets has discovered that there is a demand for rat grooming services. Actually, I think I am particularly suited to that line of work. If you live in the Chicago area and you have a poorly-groomed pet rat, give me a call, and I guarantee that when I'm through, no one will ever make fun of your pet rat again.

As always, it's been fun, and I encourage any of you who live in Illinois or have Illinois-related posts to submit them on our handy Carnival Submit Form. We'll be back with another carnival edition next weekend.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

Hey Ferdy!

I don't think you'd want to groom some of the rats we have out here in the river town of Algonquin.

Some of them are bigger than you are and have no fear of racoons.

My own beloveds steer well clear of them, thank you.

What happens if a fan falls from the upper deck onto the field and lands on a player trying to make the catch?

Hi Cat,
I would hope that my poetry does not only appeal to high "superior life forms". I certainly don't intend for that to be my audience. I rather think of myself as an educated working class man, who hopes to become more aware of the inconsistencies in my life. And to Bruce, I realize my writing is hard to understand; however, it is really there to evoke a raw emotion in the reader. If people want ot analyze it, then fine. Actually, I would welcome people to give their thoughts. Thanks for talking about my blog CC. God knows, I appreciate you taking the time out of this rat-race of a life to even consider reading my blog. Take Care,

Lane Watson (aka the hungry writer)
