Windows Hell - EMAIL Account Virus Escapes Again

by Ferdinand T Cat

A new version of the old email-info virus has escaped into the wild. If you own your own domain, expect to see hundreds of these stupid things trying every name they can think of to yield a valid destination address.

This class of virus transmits itself as an EMAIL purporting to warn you about a problem with your EMAIL account. The information will be in a ZIP file that contains an executable with a stealthed file name. In other words, the file name will contain a large number of spaces so that you can't see the actual extension and will think the file is safe to open.

A lot of spam blockers now recognize this type of viral EMAIL, and in actual fact we probably would not have noticed were it not for a sudden flurry of these things in our invalid-address bucket.

So, now would be a good time to insure your virus software and spam blocker is up-to-date.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
