Notes from Ferdy - Harriet Miers and the Cubs/Sox Rivalry
Today's big political news story is that Harriet Miers has withdrawn her nomination to the Supreme Court. The big sports story is the World Series victory of the Chicago White Sox. As a Cubs fan and a Bush supporter, I have similar reactions to both.
The Cubs/Sox rivalry in Chicago is fierce, so when the two teams play you are supposed to pull extra hard for your guys. This year, the Sox pretty much clobbered the Cubbies, but I was willing to accept that if it meant the Sox would get in the World Series. They not only got in the series: they won it.
Similarly, the downfall of Harriet Miers is a black eye for President Bush and the Republican Party leadership as a whole. Nonetheless, I am willing to accept that if it means they've learned their lesson about acting like Democrats once they've been in office for a while.
Here's hoping the story of the Second Bush Administration ends like the story of the 2005 White Sox.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat
