Dog Bites Man - Some Progress in Iraq Border Security
This is the first of what we hope will be a series of articles about aspects of the War on Terror that are not considered real news.
The Army Core of Engineers and the Iraqi Ministry of the Interior, together with Iraqi government and private sector workers, recently completed construction of a $17.2 million training facility in Mosul for the Iraqi Department of Border Enforcement (DBE). This is one of three such academies, and are part of a general plan to recruit and train the 11,000 additional personnel the DBE believes are needed to reduce the flow of terrorists into Iraq. Part of this effort involves building 254 border forts. It is generally believed that the border forts look silly, however, in the DBE's defense, I must point out that when these things were planned, Martha Stewart was unavailable.
The academy not only represents an important step forward in the goal of self-determination for the Iraqi people, it also provides a high-tech source of employment, which is an important step in pulling the Midde East out of the Third World Hell that the terrorists want to maintain. As a chilling reminder of what's at stake, the original CentCom story states that the identity of the Iraqi company that assisted in the construction has been kept secret.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

Maybe if we are lucky, they can come and secure our borders.

Cranky Liberal does tend to be sharper than the average leftist.
Solomon2 is doing an extensive study of the New Orleans levee situation (which is off-topic, but still interesting). If you follow his link, be sure to scroll down. Due to a template malfunction, there's a huge blank space between the title and the text.
