Illini Carnival - Carnival of the Vicious, Invading Paleface Bastards #7

by Ferdinand T Cat

To commemorate our seventh carnival, I designed a logo. The guy in the picture is in fact my human pet Bruce. I was suprised how little effort it took to transform him from his normal appearance into someone who would be believable holding a lit stick of dynamite in his mouth.

The big news in Illinois this week was that Judy Baar Topinka is willing to run for governor. Topinka has been in charge of the official Illinois Republican party ever since it committed suicide in the late Nineties, and represents a liberal alternative to the other candidates in the race. Since most of the people voting in the Republican primary will be Democrats, Topinka would have the inside track if she decides to run.

Now you know why it's not called the Carnival of Happy People in Paradise.

The fun begins below the fold.

Omnibus Driver at Leslie's Omnibus submitted Driving in Chicago? Beware.... Leslie provides an important service: a list of all the known traffic cameras in Chicago. Fans of Laura Ingraham will know that Laura, too, has a dim view of the traffic camera concept. Peg-Eye Nate, however, has found what to me is the most sensible solution: he takes the bus everywhere.

RICK MORAN (he puts his name in all caps so I don't get it wrong again) at Rightwing Nuthouse submitted HOW NASA WILL GET BACK TO THE MOON. There's no question the space program needs help, and that humanity lost something when it gave up the conquest of space. Without the high frontier, the future of humanity seems terribly limited. Rick describes how existing technologies can help us get back to having a future.

Cross Blogging has a round-up of the vote on the Iraq Withdrawal Resolution in the House. This was a chance for the anti-war Democrats to stand up for their principles and all but three folded under the pressure. Cross Blogging has the details.

Aaron of Free Will talks about disaster preparedness in Williamson County. Apparently, it's a good idea to do your own disaster planning, because the State of Illinois is woefully under-prepared.

Barb Natividad of Bloggo Chicago has a review of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. If you've read the book, this is a good summary of what to expect. Unfortunately, there's no word on whether or not Hermione's cat will make an appearance.

Bruno Behrend of Extreme Wisdom presents What the Media Isn't Telling Us, a list of positive developments in Iraq that he read on today's radio show. If you're interested in keeping informed about this sort of thing, consider subscribing to the Central Command Newsletter, an EMAIL newsletter from the Defense Department about developments in the Middle East.

On a similar note, Mark of Liberty Just In Case writes about the disconnect between journalism and reality in Iraq.

Rossputin has some very bad news about the Transportation Bill. Although the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere" is gone from the bill, Alaska is still getting the money to build it.

In David and Goliath, Old Testament scholar Claude Mariottini talks about a staggering archaeological discovery-- the first evidence that the Philistine giant Goliath may be an actual person.

Finally, in Just a Thought, The Hungry Writer gives us a glimpse into the nature of artists, and the difference between importance and self-importance.

That's it for this week. If you want to be in next week's carnival, just use our handy Carnival Submit Form. Until then, the Seventh Carnival of the Vicious Invading Paleface Bastards is

Respectfully submitted,

Hello, Ferdinand. Thanks for including me in your Carnival, even though I'm, well, not a Republican. :) At any rate, both Hermione's cat Crookshanks and Mr. Filch's cat Mrs. Norris appear in the movie. You must make your pet see it, or at least rent the DVD for you when it comes out. =^.^=

Topinka's a freakin' RINO!
If SHE gets it-I'm a Rauschenberger fan myself-both my husband and I WILL sit the gov race out.
Conservatives need to unite behind one candidate to achieve anything!
New Ill. State Slogan:
If you HATE freedom you'll LOVE Illinois.
