Web Site News - Evil Spammers Take Down Submit Form

by Ferdinand T Cat

Although Bruce did plan to spend Thursday and Friday relaxing with his family, it turned out to be a little more complicated.

Bruce's daughter Barb has her own domain-- gigabarb.com-- using the Lunarpages hosting service. Bruce's whole family uses Barb's mail server for their personal EMAIL, so it's important to them. About a month ago, spammers began using gigabarb.com mail addresses to send mail. Bruce tried all sorts of schemes to stop them, but either there was a security hole in the server itself or the spammers were able to spoof the headers so that it looked like all this spam was coming from Barb's server even though the real starting point was somewhere else. By Thursday evening, anti-spam services were blocking EMAIL from gigabarb, and Bruce had to do something about it. As a result of his machinations, the Submit Form was inoperative Friday afternoon and evening.

I am not afraid to admit that this entire escapade scares me. People trying to sell fake Rolex watches essentially destroyed a domain name, and Bruce has no idea how to stop this from happening again.

In any case, we are sorry for the inconvenience, and we are REALLY SORRY we weren't able to put the people who did this to us out of business.

There's gotta be a way to stop these guys.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
