Confused Americans for Truth - Have the French Lost Touch Again?
When I last discussed the Paris riots, I thought that the whole mess was on the verge of dying out completely. After all, the Chirac government had declared a state of emergency and the number of incidents had declined for two straight nights.
Alas, there is now some evidence that things are not quite as good as we'd hoped. Consider this quote from a Fox News Article.
"We returned to an almost normal situation in Ile de France," said [National Police Chief Michel] Gaudin, referring to the Paris region. He said that 86 vehicles were burned, which he said was about normal.
Eighty-six cars was normal for the early phases of the rioting, when the violence was mostly confined to Paris. Now, however, Paris is only a fifth of the total violence, and the overall trend is flat, as shown in the graph below.

Please note that this graph was based on figures Bruce dug out of Fox News articles on the riots, and many of them may be estimates.
In less than a week, the emergency decree expires, and it looks to me as if it will need to be extended. By our standards, certain aspects of the decree-- impounding of vehicles without charges being filed, house arrest without an arraignment or trial, police closure of gathering places-- would be considered a police state, and the riot levels have only dropped by half. To say the crisis has passed is just wishful thinking, and wishful thinking on the part of the French government is what got them into this mess in the first place.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

HA HA ... you forget how much "your standards" have slipped. The french haven't passed laws allowing torture or put people in jail for years without due process (guantonomo) or built secret jails in old french colonies.
Unfortunately the US has eroded much (all?) of its moral superiority globally. The chinese for example laugh whenever the US pushes it on human rights abuses. Unfortunate.

Riot solution: shoot the bastards

Just wanted to let you know: my blog readers and I have come to a decision - our counter to the Liberal movement to "wear black" and "wear red" on Fridays "until our troops come home", will be "Operation Green shirt/ Yellow ribbon".
On Fridays, to show our support for the troops AND their mission, we will wear green, and to show our hope for them to come home safe, soon, and victorious, we will also wear a yellow ribbon on our lapel or around our wrists.(pictures at my site soon) Please spread the word any way you can! Thanks in advance.
