Laura Ingraham - The Story Behind the Story Behind the Behind Closed Doors Story, Posted a Day Late Because We're Behind Schedule

by Ferdinand T Cat
When we get Behind Closed Doors,
and Harry lets his tongue hang out,
and it makes me wish that I was deaf.
He won't shut up,
when we get behind closed dooooooors.

Sorry. Bruce has been even flakier than usual the past few days.

Wednesday, when I was blogging about the Senate closed-door session, I was missing a critical piece of information. In the Fox News Story, there is the following quote.

Republican staffers were ready to go with their presentation of public statements made by administration officials in May, but Democrats on the committee objected to Roberts' decision not to attach officials' names to their comments and let the process be anonymous. That backed up the discussion, the committee's GOP staff director said.

At the time, I didn't know how this fit in with the other information I had. The missing piece of the puzzle was provided by Fox News reporter Major Garret on Laura Ingraham's Thursday show.

What Pat Roberts wanted the committee to do, and again this is all at the lawmaker level, this is lawmakers judging for accuracy the public statements against the available intelligence. He wanted a blind taste test, if you will: here's a statement, we don't know who made it-- true, not true. Let's put Democrat and Republican statements up there and let's grade them for accuracy against the underlying available intelligence, not now, but then.

In other words, it's not just about the statements made by Democrats, it's also about allowing them to steer the facts in the direction they want to go. Without names attached to the statements, the Democrats could set one of their own up for the same ridicule they want to heap on the Bush Administration. That's a very different picture from what I would have assumed had I gone with the information in the Fox News story.

So, there are two important points here:

  • If something makes no sense, wait until you get more information.
  • Always listen to the Laura Ingraham Show.

Thankfully, the power of the Internet makes both those things fairly easy to do.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
