Web Site News - Adding an Annoying CAPTCHA Security Code Thing

Comments may be iffy for a while. Bruce is making another attempt to install one of those graphic comment security verification display thingies. The difficulty is finding one that work reliably but can also be seen by a cat. Unfortunately, developers never mention cat compatibility when they post stuff on the Movable Type plugin directory, so we have to download and test the things individually.

i highly advise you to hook up with blogspot for your comment verification services. i currently have mine turned off allowing all sorts of ads for viagra and other "enlargement" products to be posted free of charge. i did not turn it off because it will hang up every other day and post something like "smeita", and refuse to allow posting, and continually refetch "smeita", no i turned it off because i am an idiot who got tired of making twelve attempts to post a comment with strings that were hard for my bad eyes to read like "jjjhlypvwwb". it was all my fault. so hook up with blogspot and watch the comments roll in. did i mention i didn't take my remron today?

Things missing from the installation instructions for the SCode plugin:

(1) The default directory is "/tmp". Because the directory name must end in a slash, this will generate an error.

(2) The cgi script in the plugins/SCode directory needs to be given execute permission.

(3) The "filter" method in SCode.pl defines "$entry" twice in the same context.

(4) The "template" method in SCode.pl invokes
"$staticwebpath" in a useless void context.

(5) The graphic looks like one of the cheap breakable ones.

I'm starting to think the Reverend has the right idea. We could set up a special blog on blogspot just for spam comments.

Sorry. With the new anti-spam code in place, it takes almost 10 minutes to post an entry. But it's worth it, right?
