Illini Carnival - Carnival of the Vicious, Invading Paleface Bastards #10

by Ferdinand T Cat

Welcome to the tenth carnival of Illinois bloggers and Illinois issues. It's the day after Christmas. The retail outlets that gain the most from the holiday rush have started their post-Christmas clearance sales. Children are playing with their loot from Santa's visit and parents are sleeping off the big day. Taxpayers are making last-minute adjustments to gross income. Cats are having leftover turkey for dinner.

It's Illinois, where every driver's license is a campaign commercial and even the weather plays politics.

The fun begins below the fold.

Angry Republican Mom starts off this week with an essay on subjects that schools should teach. Everyone is concerned about evolution and intelligent design, but there are other subjects getting short shrift.

Lennie of Cross Blogging closed his Road to Christmas series with an essay on Herod the Great. In the Christmas story, Herod represents the conniving ways of power and foretells the persecution of the Church.

Aaron of Free Will has found an important lesson about economics in Somalia: it's doing a booming business in an industry that's tightly regulated everywhere else on the globe.

Bruno Behrend of Extreme Wisdom wonders if the public school system in the United States is itself a type of religion. Whether you agree or not, you should look at the questions he asks and consider the implications of the answers.

Rick Moran of Right Wing Nut House looks at the precious few details we have on the NSA wiretapping scandal and asks A "Massive" Intrusion of What? On the one hand, the NSA may very well have stayed within the letter of the law. On the other hand, the letter belongs to a Twentieth-Century law that doesn't really apply to Twenty-First Century communication technology.

Matthew of Liberty Just in Case found a news story that talks about real live Iraq war heroes, sort of.

In Readers' comments reveal much about immigration politics, Rossputin.com replies to some critics of his stand on immigration and border security.

Finally, from Marathon Pundit, we have a very odd story about the LAPD: they're coming to Chicago for this year's Gay Games, and it's it's not because they're looking for a good time.

That's it for this week. If you want to get in next week's carnival, click here to get to our handy Carnival Submit Form.

Until then, the tenth Carnival of the Vicious, Invading, Paleface Bastards is
