Illini Carnival - Carnival of the Vicious, Invading Paleface Bastards #9

by Ferdinand T Cat

Welcome to the ninth carnival of Illinois bloggers and Illinois issues. Here in the Chicago area we're experiencing single-digit temperatures and double-digit snowfall. Twenty-five years ago, this combination disrupted the city's transit system and swept the mayor from office.

These days, however, we are better prepared, and the snow merely serves to remind us that Mother Nature did not design this climate for hairless primates.

The fun begins below the fold.

From Omnibus Driver at Leslie's Omnibus we have two entries: Christmas, Chicago Style (the story of a gang of Santas wandering the streets of Chicago), and Fitz Fest 2006! Fitz Fest is a blogger gathering on January 8 in Stillman Valley, IL.

Democrats are making a big deal of the number of war veterans that run on the Democratic ticket. Angry Republican Mom talks about one such candidate-- an Iraqi war vet running for Congress in Hoffman Estates-- and has an interesting explanation for the fact Republican Iraq war vets haven't shown up yet.

Lennie at Cross Blogging is doing a series called The Road to Christmas, in which he examines the various characters in the Christmas Story. Today's entry is about The Innkeepers. Previous entries have discussed Elisabeth, John the Baptist, Mary, Joseph, and Zaccharius.

Aaron at Free Will notes that Cindy Sheehan is no longer a Useful Idiot. The media blitz that made her an international sensation over the summer has moved on, and her latest antics attract only a handful of protesters.

Bruno Behrend of Extreme Wisdom exposed himself to extreme danger by attending a public meeting on a property tax hike. The speech he presented, with commentary, can be found here. I imagine that the attendees at the meeting were not expecting Bruno's brand of cold, intellectual analysis. Hopefully, it will resonate better with the voters.

Mark at Liberty Just in Case presents his take on the week's big story (in the MSM, at least)-- the no-warrant wiretaps. Apparently, Bush isn't the first President to use the privilege.

Bill Baar of Bill Baar's West Side talks about a local story involving free speech and an instructor at DePaul University. An adjunct instructor, Klocek could be fired far more easily than a tenured professor. Although Klocek was terminated over a year ago, his story was brought back onto the front burner when DePaul hosted controversial native american advocate Ward Churchill.

Rossputin has some good news about Fish, Mercury, and Pregnancy. The bottom line: it's safe for pregnant women to eat fish. This means it's also safe for cats, which is an important aspect of the problem, given that half my diet is tuna and salmon.

Finally, Dr. Claude Mariottini presents the Old Testament foundation for Bethlehem being the messiah's birthplace, and discusses how much the celebration of Christmas has changed in the interim.

That's it for this week. If you want to get in next week's carnival, click here to get to our handy Carnival Submit Form.

Until then, the ninth Carnival of the Vicious, Invading, Paleface Bastards is

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
