Windows Hell - Important MSN Messenger Safety Tip

by Ferdinand T Cat

While doing the daily trackback post, Bruce and I stumbled across a very important news story at Third World County. A virus is masquerading as a new version of MSN Messenger.

At this time, the virus in question-- Virkel.F-- does not appear on the Symantec Anti-Virus web site. The virus was first identified by F-Secure Corporation yesterday.

You can find the full story here. As David points out in his article, the original website is gone, but the trap will start spreading to other websites soon, and may even find its way into shareware and freeware directories. Microsoft does do software signing, so before installing any Microsoft product, be sure that it has the correct signature.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

Another lil tip to add to the "software signing":

Always update Micro$oft software ONLY via autnetic Microsoft websites. Almost ALL M$ software can be updated via M$ Update website. Getting it elsewhere? Let the downloader beware.

Update your AV. NOW.

And MANUALLY scan ALL software downloads!

MANUALLY scan ALL software downloads!

MANUALLY scan ALL software downloads!

What I say three times is true...
