Notes from Ferdy - Potpourri
It's a strange day. Bruce and I are hopping around the web looking for interesting news, and this is what we found.
- This just in: Republicans in the House believe that withdrawing from Iraq is "fundamentally inconsistent with achieving victory". Elsewhere, Morgan Freeman argues that isolating Black History from American History contributes to continued racism. Coming soon: illegal aliens should not get in-state college tuition.
- In an apparent effort to prove they are motivated by religious intolerance rather than racism, gang-bangers in Sydney started a fire at a Lebanese Christian Church.
- Negotiations between the White House and John McCain have led to a compromise anti-torture bill. The new bill will prohibit "cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment" of prisoners, although there is strong disagreement in Congress over exactly what that phrase means.
- Apparently, the opening numbers for King Kong are less than expected, primarily because the expectation was huge. This is why superior life forms don't predict the future: we predict the past.
- Speaking of King Kong, a lot of hay is going to be made about the idea of a giant gorilla falliung in love with a human actress. Some people claim this is racist, but in fact it's a case of birds of a feather. Gorillas are vegetarians and nature-lovers, so they would be a perfect fit for the whole Hollywood social climate. If the idiot movie director who kidnapped Kong had brought him straight to California instead of New York, he'd probably have been made governor instead of getting into the big fight with the airplanes.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

What's not to like and admire about these statements from one of my favorite actors? (I started to type, "favorite black actors.") [Read More]
