Notes from Ferdy - It's Time to Make History at the Oscars

by Ferdinand T Cat

By now, we are all pretty sure that the gay cowboy movie Brokeback Mountain is going to win big at the Oscars. This is going to be a huge problem because the ratings for the Oscar broadcast have been dropping like a stone for some time. The only exception is last year's show, where there was real mystery about who would win.

It occurred to me that there is a simple, obvious way to jack up the excitement level and get a truly large audience for this year's show: nominate Brokeback star Heath Ledger for Best Actress.

I've done a lot of research, and I've noticed that whenever a love story swamps the Oscars, one of the leads is nominated for Best Actor and the other is nominated for Best Actress. So, it makes sense that we could do the same for this movie. Also, back in 1991 Beauty and the Beast was the first cartoon nominated for Best Picture and it increased interest enormously, so we know that breaking precedent is a big ratings winner.

I know, I know, it sounds silly, but heck, if Bruce can get tagged as a lesbian, then it's not that much of a leap to consider the possibility of a male Best Actress.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

I am appaled to find out that the sheep were just acting -and they seemed so --well real!

I hope PETA demands at least one oscar be reserved for a special catagory for our co-equal animal friends -after all didn't this movie prove that we are all just animals under the skin-so to speak?

I second the motion. What the oscars need is a male best actress.

If anyone should get a Best Actress nomination in that duo it should be Jake Gyllenhall. He is so much prettier.

And what about the horsies? Why this discrimination? We want an award for them!
