Windows Hell - Norton Cleanup and Firefox

by Ferdinand T Cat

I'm sure a lot of you don't like Norton and even more don't like Windows. Of those who use Norton Systemworks 2006 and Windows, probably only a few browse the web with Firefox. But if you are one of these rare individuals, you may notice that after running Norton Cleanup, Firefox starts acting strangely. In particular, files that you absolutely know for sure are out there on the server show up as Not Found. For example, this morning I experienced a painful sensation in my chest when a message popped up in my browser telling me that the file index.html for the site http://www.mkrules.net could not be found.

The problem is that Norton Cleanup cheerfully deleted the files from the Internet cache, but does not properly update the cache directory. Your PC sees the directory, decides the file is in the cache, then gets upset when in fact it proves not to be there.

To fix the problem, simply delete the cache from within Firefox. This clears the directory so that Firefox is once again in tune with the truth of the universe.

Respectfully submitted,
