Laura Ingraham - The Right Way to Look at the Cartoon Intifada

by Ferdinand T Cat

This week Laura Ingraham is in Iraq, and today's show was hosted by former Undersecretary of Defense Jed Babbit. Laura herself used a cell phone to call into the show.

A lot of time was spent discussing the cartoon riots. I noticed that the phrase "double standard" was used a lot, and it occurred to me that this was in fact a red herring.

I have said over and over again that we need moderate Muslims to come forward to denounce the violence, but it occurred to me today that this is not going to happen because the moderates don't need to come forward: President Bush has already conceded the point. But there's more. A double standard for Muslims and non-Muslims has precedent in Islamic law-- the concept of the dhimmi, a reduced status for Jews and Christians in an Islamic state.

The point is, talking about double standards and extremism may help Americans and Europeans justify their anger against Islam as a whole, but it is not going to make any difference to the people setting fires at Danish embassies.

The foe here is not radical Islam, it's liberal multiculturalism-- the belief that violence is acceptable if you are an offended minority. I realize that I'm not a Muslim scholar, but I search in vain for a passage in the Koran that says you're supposed to burn things when you get pissed off. On the other hand, you don't have to go very far at all to find some liberal justifying mob violence by the oppressed.

You want to know why Christians didn't take to the streets over Book of Daniel? It's because they're not liberals. Why didn't Republicans burn down the NAACP headquarters after Julian Bond called them Nazis? Because they're not liberals.

So don't waste your money on stirring defenses of a free press or lame apologies. We need to make these people into conservatives. Go over to Laura'a web site right now and tell her she needs to start simulcasting her show in Arabic

Maybe you can fight radical Islam with a lame call for calm, but the only way to beat liberalism is a dose of reality right in the face.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

Brilliant analysis...loved the bit about the reduced status of Jews and Non-Jews. From that very point, everything is justified and obliderates my latest post about 'why isn't it ever the Muslims fault.'

Amazing insight. Thanks
