Confused Americans for Truth - McKinney Hoist by Her Own Petard

by Ferdinand T Cat

I find myself in the unenviable position of feeling sorry for Cynthia McKinney. A simple case of procedural confusion has literally turned into a Federal case.

The facts of the case are not in dispute: McKinney tried to go into an office building without displaying her security pass, and when an officer attempted to stop her, she hit him. McKinney claims she was a victim of racial profiling, but in fact, her problem was that she did not take the advice of a cat.

Showing your security pass is a gesture of respect to the people whose job it is to protect you from the very real possibility of criminals with murderous intent. It costs almost nothing. Even so, the police routinely allow members of Congress to eschew their identifying lapel pins, and they are provided with photos they can use to insure they can distinguish a real legislator from an ordinary person who has to follow the rules. McKinney had the option of slowing down long enough for the officer to find her picture, after which there would have been an opportunity for the officer in question to make a polite comment about the fact she's changed her hairstyle [registration required]. She could have then proceeded into the building with a warm feeling of happiness in her wake. Instead, we have a symphony of hatred and rancor.

McKinney's political philosophy involves punishing innocent people with burdensome regulations in the hope it also makes life harder for criminals. Last Thursday she was given an opportunity to experience what it is like to be an ordinary person instead of a big, important government official. She very clearly did not enjoy the experience.

There's an important lesson there.

Respectfully submitted,

My sister Cuffy had a similar incident with our ole guard dog Chief and she scratched him and accused him of species profiling. It was ugly....
