Confused Americans for Truth - Kerry Needs a Date with the Iraqi Government

by Ferdinand T Cat

Hoping to get more support for an Iraq withdrawal resolution, Massachussetts Senator John Kerry has moved his proposed withdrawal date from December 2006 to July 2007. Kerry has long believed that the Iraqi leadership responds only to deadlines, and they will not fully take control of their own country until we set a firm date.

Kerry's mistake is that he is viewing the world through human eyes, and he sees moderate Iraqis as an inferior sort of people who respond only to threats. This makes them very different from, say, terrorists, who in Kerry's mind respond positively when they feel less threatened. I, on the other hand see both the terrorists and the moderates as humans, and I would never assume that the moderates should be treated like children just because they don't have a history of chopping people's heads off.

I think it's easy for Kerry to treat the elected leaders of Iraq like lazy children because they're not real people to him. What he really needs to do is go over there and talk to them face-to-face. I think he should stand in front of the Iraqi Parliament and explain to them they have one year to get their act together or else. I believe they would have some suggestions on what the Senator could do with his idea. Not only that, I believe that the U.S. military forces in Baghdad would enthusiastically help the Senator implement the Parliament's suggestions. Afterward, I'm sure everyone would have a more positive outlook on the whole war.

I don't see a downside here.

Respectfully submitted,
