EMAIL Hell - The Hollywood Intermediate Plot Thickens

by Ferdinand T Cat

I have blogged twice about the spam campaign promoting the stock of Hollywood Intermediate. There have been countless penny stock campaigns via spam over the past several years, and my definitive analysis of the phenomenon is here.

My main focus with my anti-spam pieces is the general goofiness of the spammer message; however, I have neglected the effects of spam on the products being advertised. When you get right down to it, people hate spam, and sending out a million unsolicited EMAILs hyping a hot new stock is going to generate a backlash of epic proportions. Hollywood Intermediate has been feeling the pinch. Not only has the stock been dropping erratically as the spammers pump and dump it, but it has begun to lose customers, and to save its reputation, the company has added an official disclaimer to its web site.

I have nothing but sympathy for the folks at Hollywood Intermediate. This site has been shut down twice due to spam activity, and it's a constant struggle to keep it under control. Though I frequently ridicule spammers, I never lose sight of the fact that they're truly evil people.

Hollywood Intermediate is learning that lesson the hard way.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
