Adventures with Bruce - Barb Gigamaster and the Wedding Reception Crisis

by Ferdinand T Cat

From a distance, Bruce's eldest daughter Barb appears to be a normal high school girl. If you look beneath the surface, there are some anomalies. For example, she has a tax-deferred retirement plan she set up when she was 12 years old. As a toddler, however, she was quite different from the norm and required some fairly unusual parenting. One such incident was the Wedding Reception Crisis.

The wedding was for one of Barb's uncles. It started with a three-hour drive to the bride's home town and ended after a reception that stretched well past Barb's bedtime. On the way out of the hall, Bruce passed a vending machine and bought each of his children a brightly-colored bouncing ball. Barb was carried out to the car by her grandfather, and when she and the grandfather arrived at the family car, Barb was screaming hysterically.

Bruce knows all sorts of tricks for calming a child, but none of them would work on Barb. Instead, the conversation went something like this:

Bruce: Barbie, snap out of it!

Barb (instantly coming to attention): I dropped my ball.

Bruce: I'll go get it.

Barb: Thanks, Dad.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
