Notes from Ferdy - Israel At War on Two Fronts

by Ferdinand T Cat

Insurgents in Lebanon have captured two Israeli soldiers, prompting an attack into Lebanon from Israel. According to Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, the purpose of the kidnapping was to draw Israel into Lebanon in order to relieve the pressure on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. This is a completely ridiculous assertion, since Israel has a history of winning two-front wars.

You are going to hear over the next few days about the deaths of civilians, women, and children at the hands of the Israeli army; however, it's worth noting that when Israel was attempting to focus on military targets, Hamas retaliated with suicide bombings in civilian areas. Hezbollah, too, has carried out suicide attacks against Israel. When every civilian can be turned into a weapon, the concept of a purely military target becomes blurred.

Israel is therefore waging a form of total war. Total war is much simpler than surgical war of the sort that worked so well in Operation Desert Storm, because you can kill anything that moves. It is not hard to understand why Israel would take this path: in the minds of Israeli's leaders, they are striking into areas where even the newborn babies think all the Jews should be driven into the sea.

We hear a lot about the need to understand the Palestinians. I thought it would be a refreshing change to try to understand the Israelis.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
