Web Site News - The Next Trackback

by Ferdinand T Cat

Lately we've been getting flooded by trackback spam. Our throttle rate is set to fifty an hour, which means we can handle a little less than one spam per minute without turning away somebody legitimate. (The default throttle rate for Movable Type is ten an hour.) Normally, when we get a whole bunch of spam from a single site, I have Bruce trace the site and notify the host. The site goes off the air fairly quickly after that and the spam stops.

This trick will not help with this latest attack, because the spam doesn't have a real link in it. The URL is http://---next---/.

This is the problem with an advertising method that only appeals to people too stupid to know better.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
