Confused Americans for Truth - Bill Clinton on the Warpath

by Ferdinand T Cat

I am quite worried about our previous President. The man just turned 60 and has a heart condition, so it can't be healthy for him to lose control over the whole Path to 9/11 thing. In particular, he's very upset at any hint that he didn't do all he could to get bin Laden, but to get the full effect you'll need to see the video, which Jo's Cafe has linked here.

The truth is that we can't fault Clinton for thinking that turning the Arab states against us was a bigger problem than letting bin Laden wander around loose. For most of 2000, he was trying to broker a permanent peace between Israel and the Palestine Authority. If he had succeeded, then there's every reason to believe that Osama would have ceased to be a problem.

From the point of view of a historian attempting to interpret Clinton's actions in a favorable light, that's a perfectly good explanation; however, from the point of view of someone trying to revive the fortunes of the Democratic party, it's a very bad interpretation, because it means that this is perhaps not a problem that can be solved by talking. I mean, let's face it, if you want somebody that will scare America's enemies, Republicans are the obvious choice, but if you think the road to security is talking and making people feel good, then the Democrats are your guys.

I think, however, that Mr. Clinton is making a serious mistake, because there's one Democrat that can scare the hair white on even the most hardened terrorist, and that's Hillary Clinton. In other words, if President Clinton were to come right out and say he wanted to give peace a chance and failed, then Senator Clinton is the obvious person to fix that problem. She has access to Bill when somebody needs to be conned, and when toughness is the right approach, she can just call a press conference. Tell anybody you know that Hillary is calling a press conference and I guarantee you'll get a facial expression somewhere between terror and horror.

So, Bill, if you really love your wife, then stop losing your cool and put yourself solidly behind giving peace a chance. You'll look better in the long run, you'll live longer, and I'm pretty sure that when the dust settles, there will be at least four years in which she'll be way too busy to care what you do in your spare time.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

I have a question for you: did you actually read the article you marked "lose control?" Because, from the context you put it in, it looks like you didn't even read what Clinton had said. It's pretty surprising, because th article is only a couple paragraphs long. I think it's time for certain people to get over their hatred for Clinton. Yes, he lied about the BJ. Big deal, he was a competent president who brought the nation together in peace and prosperity. Next to the current whitehouse, he was damn near flawless.

P.S. You "blogger" people are never as funny as you think you are.

The depth of Clinton's anger was shown in the video, not the article, but even if he were being calm about it, my point stands.

Unlike some who would argue that Clinton cared only about focus groups and opinion polls, I'm saying that his actions were principled and consistent with his beliefs. Those principles made sense in 2000, but they ultimately failed. Bill doesn't want us to make that connection, which is why he tried to stop the ABC miniseries and is currently engaged in damage control.

No one has denied the existence of the Gorelick wall, the Pakistan warning, and the rule about the CIA not dealing with criminals. All of these things are consistent with the morality of liberalism, so we have every reason to believe they were put in place with the best of motives. It is also obvious they hampered our ability to fight terrorism.

The inability to see this is why liberals cannot be trusted with national security.
