Confused Americans for Truth - The Path to 9/11: Reflections on Episode One

by Ferdinand T Cat

Okay, Bruce and I have been watching the first episode of The Path to 9/11, and it's brutal stuff. Perhaps it would have made more sense if they hadn't had to chop it up to keep from stepping on any toes, but it's still tough to follow.

Instead of the usual spam that clogs broadcast television, the interruptions in Path are disclaimers, stating that it's a dramatization and not gospel truth. I do admit that I found the scene where President Clinton claims he never had sex with Monica Lewinski to be totally unbelievable, but humans have a completely different view of catting around than I do, so maybe in his mind it wasn't completely insane to lie while being video taped.

I can't be sure what the movie-makers want us to believe, although there's some evidence that too many cooks were in charge of this particular broth. What seems clear from what we saw is that the good guys were hampered by a need to proceed against bin Laden in a lawful manner. Maybe they weren't. Maybe Sandy Berger didn't dither long enough for bin Laden to escape in Afghanistan, and maybe the Clinton Administration did pull out all the stops to get the al-Qaeda leader after the embassy bombings. They still failed.

This is why it's obvious there are no cats advising the Democratic National Committee. The smart thing would have been to admit their mistakes and announce they were going to do better the next time around. Instead, they want you to believe they did everything they possibly could and came up empty.

But watching this movie, and watching people trying to balance on the knife edge between obeying the law and protecting the public, I have realized that the Democrat view of the world is doomed.

We're not going to stop terrorists from hating America, because too many American citizens keep telling the terrorists they're justified. We're not going to prevent every possibile terrorist act because we're not willing to do what it takes to get the intelligence we need. And we're not going to solve our problems by hunting one man because that one man has an entire planet for a hiding place.

If you believe in God, if you have Him in your heart, you're still safe. They can take your wealth, your land, and your life, but they can't take your faith. If, however, God is just a vague and distant concept, and your faith is in the Federal government, then it is simply too horrible to contemplate that a mistake was made while one of the good guys was in charge.

My low opinion of docudramas is well known. I will never know how much of what I saw tonight was fact, how much was fabricated for dramatic effect, and how much was comfortable fiction by eyewitnesses who couldn't bear to remember the truth.

But I know why certain people are afraid. If I thought the way they did, I'd be scared, too.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat

So that there's no doubt how over-the-top terrified the Democrats are, I have culled the following notice from the front page of their official website:

A Despicable, Irresponsible Fraud

Does a major national broadcast network want to stain itself by presenting an irresponsible, slanderous, fraudulent, "docu-drama" to the American public? "The Path to 9/11" mocks the truth and dishonors the memory of 9/11 victims to serve a cheap, callous political agenda. Help keep this propaganda off the air.

I hope they put out an unedited version. The bottom line here is there was no way to predict what these guys would do, so they did what they thought was right; instead of cowboying up and just doing it. Terrorism was a problem for other, uncivilized countries -- until it came home to roost.
