Confused Americans for Truth - A Small Plane Crashes into a New York City Condo High-Rise
For the past seven hours, details have been trickling out about what happened in New York City at approximately 2:45pm Eastern Time.
The latest reports from Fox News and the Associated Press state that a plane belonging by New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle crashed into the Belaire building this afternoon, killing the pilot and one passenger. The Belaire is a high-rise condominium building whose suites sell for up to $1 million. The plane struck between the 30th and 31st floors, then slid down to the street, leaving a long black mark in its wake. A fire broke out, but was doused in less than an hour.
It is not known whether or not Lidle was flying the plane, but there were two passengers-- Lidle and a flight instructor-- and both were killed. Somewhere between 10 and 20 people were hospitalized, but there have been no additional deaths.
This wasn't a terrorist attack: to generate a properly spectacular loss of life, you either hit an office building during the day or a residential building at night. This was a residential building during the day. It is very unlikely that this was a suicide. If Lidle wanted to commit ritual suicide exactly one month after the fifth anniversary of 9/11, he would not have needed the help of his flight instructor.
There were countless witness accounts of the crash. Some people saw a helicopter, some claimed the plane was doing acrobatic maneuvers, and others thought the plane was clearly out of control. These reports will be used in future conspiracy theories about this crash, but right now they're excellent examples of why witness reports are so unreliable.
Though this was not a terror attack, Air National Guard fighter planes were scrambled immediately to cover most major cities, just in case. It makes me feel just a little bit safer to know that.
