EMAIL Hell - I Want the Sony Laptop, but You Can Keep the Virus
This is just plain cruel. Today I received an EMAIL from someone pretending to be amazon.com telling me they were shipping me a brand new Sony VAIO laptop and my credit card will be billed for $2,482.87.
Of course, the message is a total scam, asking me to look at a PDF stored in a "self-extracting file" that actually deploys a virus.
But this is not the point. The point is that Sony VAIO laptops look really cool. Bruce would never by a VAIO because he says he doesn't want to spend extra money just to get something that looks cool. His entire wardrobe and all his office furniture is a testament to this philosophy, and you can imagine the daily visual assault I must endure when he's working at home.
I don't mind getting a phony subscription confirmation for some Russian stripper's webcam. It doesn't bother me to be told that I've bought tickets for a trip to some obscure tropical island. I am completely unphased by announcements that I've put in the successful bid on an auction for a Dixie Chicks CD. But to rub my nose in the fact that the world is full of beautiful things that my meal ticket is never going to buy: that hurts.
There has got to be a law against this sort of thing.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

It could be worse.
They could write something like:
"Congratulations! You have just won a years supply of cheese! Fresh and delivered daily from Wisconsin! Please click on the link below to get your cheese."

Like those lil Vaios. Lovely Daughter has one and it's pretty slick.
Heck, I'd even take the virus. Some of those are pretty interesting (read it in a plain text editor :-)).

Pretty they are, but their innards are completely obnoxious. I have had a VAIO desktop for about four years now, and swear at it in multiple languages every time I have to crack it open.
Lousy scam, though... I suppose you could always try the cute-eyes approach... every day... for about a year...
