Adventures with Bruce - Community Service

by Ferdinand T Cat

Bruce's daughter Maggie spends one day a month cooking for the homeless and teaches at a special sunday school for children with disabilities. Neither of these things qualify as community service, so she had to find something else in order to fulfill her high school graduation requirements.

She chose the pet therapy program for an outfit called Manor Care.

Interloper hugging the GremlinNow, pet therapy is not what you think. Like you, when I first heard about the concept, I thought Maggie would be taking me around town and letting people lavish me with gifts so they could feel they were doing something really important and positive with their lives. Instead, the idea was that Maggie would visit people while letting them play with the Interloper. To Maggie and the various senior citizens who live at Manor Care, the Interloper is a dull-eyed feline who is gentle with children and likes to hug people. To me, of course, she's a killer she-demon full of sharp bits, and I really don't understand why nobody else ever sees that side of her.

The Interloper was the only cat in the whole pet therapy program (the rest were all dogs), so she was extremely popular. Day after day Maggie would take her out of the house for two or three hours at a time and I would have the freedom to wander around the house without fear and generally have a good time.

The problem is that Maggie recently got a job, so she really doesn't have time to get involved in a third charity. As a result, the Manor Care pet therapy program is back to an all-dog thing.

So if you live in the Schaumburg area and you'd like to do something to help your fellow man, consider borrowing the Interloper and getting involved in pet therapy. Maggie says it's very rewarding, and I'll do everything in my power to make sure you have custody of the Interloper all day, every day.

Seriously. You would be making the world a much happier place.

Respectfully submitted,

Ferdinand T. Cat
