Catblogging - Beware of the Guard Cat

Cats are often given short shrift because of a popular conception that only dogs can be trained as guard animals. It is true you can't train a cat to attack intruders, but you can train a family to help a cat guard them from danger. Here you can see me placed strategically in a major traffic point of the house, at the entrance to the room with all the TVs and computers in it. People who belong here have been trained to step over me, but a burglar would trip, at which point I would-- without even having to think about it-- announce the problem at a very high volume.
It's completely foolproof, and I eat a lot less than a pair of Dobermans, so it's cheaper, too.
Respectfully submitted,
Ferdinand T. Cat

There's also the Skritch Toll. You lie down in a high-traffic doorway and anyone who passes by must give you Devotional Skritches.
Oh, Ferdinand, I would love to pay your Skritch Toll!
